January

We had gotten quite a bit of snow in December but the day before the kids were suppose to go back to school from Christmas Break it started snowing.  It snowed and snowed all night and we were all pretty excited when we woke up to texts letting us know that school had been cancelled.  It snowed off and on and was pretty icy but we were surprised when the next day was also cancelled.  And then the next day was cancelled.  We couldn't believe that we had three snow days right after Christmas break but then when we kept getting snow over the weekend, we ended up having two more snow days.  The kids went back to school on a Wednesday and then the next day ended up being snow day number six.  They kids went back to school on Friday and then had a three day weekend because of Martin Luther King holiday.  It was the middle of January and the kids had been to school only two days.  It was pretty crazy!!!!!!  Finals were cancelled for the first semester and other school districts started adding extra school days to the calendar.  Luckily, our school district added hours to a few of our days and we didn't have to make up extra days.  The kids played in the snow a bunch and went sledding a ton but I have to admit, we all got a little tired of it, but I never got tired of how it looked.

All the snow was great for Spencer's "snow cave camp out".  The troop drove up to Donnelly and made camp outside the Blanchett's cabin.  Spencer reported back that he stayed pretty warm all night.

I thought this would be the perfect book to read during our "Long Winter".  I ended up reading most of the Little House on the Prairie series.  I have loved these books since I was a little girl!!

I needed to get creative on how to keep these boys busy with so many "snow days".  An afternoon at the church playing ball was just what they needed!

I was thrilled when I saw this owl!  It only has one eye so that's why I think it was out during the day.

This is how Levi came downstairs one more morning ready to go to school (one of the few they had). Bathrobe and animal hat/scarf and neck pillow, CHECK!

We ended up having TWO "snow days" from church.  The first one we were brave and drove out to visit with Grandma and Grandpa.  We brought dinner and played games most of the afternoon.

Did I say that we had TONS of snow???  The news said it was the worst winter in 30 years.
